diving into sewing: dpn case
Since I’ve been spending most of my time settling into my new home, I haven’t spent as much time knitting as I usually do. My creative side has been dampened (along with my spirits slightly) as I’ve been trying to find a job with no avail. However, while Wyatt was at work all day on Friday, the craft bug bit me big time and I decided I wanted to give the new sewing machine I got for Christmas a go. I’ve sewn a little bit here and there, but I’ve never really completed a project by myself other than a drawstring bag in my middle school home economics class. Since I was moving away from my mom who does most of my sewing for me (linings knit bags etc), she gave me a machine of my very own.
Being the overachiever that I tend to be, I wanted to make something that was practical even if it wasn’t the easiest thing ever. I decided on a case for my double pointed needles because they were all willy-nilly in a loose bag and needed a proper home. After doing some research I found a pretty easy tutorial from Ruth’s Place on how to make a case like I wanted. Cutting out the fabric was easy enough, but I hit a bump in the road when I started trying to actually sew since it meant I had to actually thread the machine. I had a rocky start because I initially wound the bobbin a little wonky, but Wyatt’s sewing expert friend Meg helped me get things straightened out and it was mostly smooth sailing from there.
I finished it this evening and I am so proud of myself! Now I just need to fill in the missing needles.
